SATHKARA’2026 brought together environmental conservation and cultural heritage across two days of volunteer-led action during the annual Rathnapura Sri Maha Saman Devala Randoli Perahera on 29th and 30th July 2026.

On the first day, ZeroPlastic volunteers carried out a cleanup campaign along the roads and surrounding areas ahead of the Randoli Perahera, collecting and removing plastic waste to create a cleaner environment for devotees and visitors. On the second day, the team organized a Sisil Pan Dansala, offering free refreshments to pilgrims and participants while encouraging eco-friendly practices throughout the event.

The project reflected a commitment to protecting Sri Lanka’s cultural traditions in harmony with nature, reducing plastic pollution during one of the country’s valued religious and cultural celebrations, and raising environmental awareness among the public.

Whether it is a cleanup or a community gathering, every effort to reduce plastic waste at large-scale events matters.
